Although Burr Oak wasn’t mentioned in the Little House on the Prairie books, the Ingalls family lived here for a while. Laura’s baby sister, Grace, was born while they lived in Burr Oak. Laura Ingalls Wilder’s pa helped to run The Master’s Hotel. The hotel is still here & is now a museum.
The visitors center is across the street from the Master’s Hotel. The sign painted on the window reads: “Burr Oak Savings Bank”. But, look at the door. It is the visitors center. This is where you pay if you want to tour the museum. They have some stuff to see in this building: letters from Laura, etc. This is also a gift shop.
***There are restrooms & a water cooler in the visitors center!***
When I went by here I was not able to take the tour due to time constraints. Honestly, I’m not sure if they were open at the time either. We did take a few minutes to stretch our legs & snap a few pictures.
My daughter & granddaughters took a quick look behind the Master’s Hotel to see the park.
Of course, the girls made a friend. Don’t know if this sweet kitty is always around, but it sure was friendly & welcoming. 🙂
