2021, A New Year

Last Year Was Unexpected

2020, not for the things that I hoped for, was a year to remember. I started the year thinking it was going to be filled with some extended road trips. It ended up being a year of staying at home.

Yes, last year did not go the way I would have ever expected a year to be. I started the year with reposting my Not Going to Kick the Bucket; Have Fun & Live List from 2015. In the post I made in January 2020, Have Fun & Live 2020, Travel Bucket List, I had updated the 2015 list.

I started that post with this:

“Time can get away from us rather quickly. Don’t put off doing things or experiences that you know you want to have. If you put it off, it is likely to never happen. Just get out there & do it!”

2020 showed that to be true. We all know how last year went, no need for me to go on & on about that. I do have a high risk household, so of course, 2021 has been a little reserved on what to expect.

Reserved on full expectations or not, it is a new year. I can be hopeful; which I am. At this point, even if I need to take a lot of extra precautions (remember high risk household), I can see there is the possibility that I may be able to get out on the road.

At the moment, I am working on mapping out my master plan of a major cross country road trip. In a few months, when the weather is better, I will see how everything else stands in the country.

I figure I will end up with one of three possibilities :

  • I will be able to safely take the trip as mapped,
  • I will need to postpone some parts for health safety reasons & due to possible ongoing closures,
  • 2021 will flip on me like 2020 & I will have to look forward to 2022

I am hopeful for the first choice, but the second would be better than the last option.

Best case scenario, just some of what I hope to include this year:

  • drive all of Route 66 (I have already driven most of 66 many times)
  • take some time in Wyoming to see wild horses
  • finally make it to Washington (that would be state #48 for me)
  • visit some National Parks that I haven’t been to yet
  • visit Cannon Beach in Oregon
  • the beach – always want to spend some time at the beach
  • see more road trip attractions
  • drive “The Loneliest Road in America”, U.S. Route 50 in Nevada
  • thinking about this one: visiting the Florida Keys
  • drive up the East Coast

That’s just some of my ideas for a road trip this year. I guess we shall see how it goes.
